Khanom is a quaint little picturesque destination which has not yet been discovered by most foreign tourists. Most visitors are to this lovely little area are Thai nationals. In fact, Khanom is literally the one place left in the world that is a genuine tropical delight. The unblemished pristine beach span over eight mile radius and extend along the northern mountains of the Nakorn Si Thammarat province.
There are truly no words to describe the magical wonders of this extraordinary place. The only way possible to accurately grasp the stunning beauty of the area is to see it with your own eyes. The natural tranquility of the area has the scenic coconut trees that you might expect in this temperate climate and as far as your eyes can see are the sparkling azure blue waters of the Andaman Bay.
Khanom also has a well kept secret. The area is the breeding grounds for the very rare pink dolphins called Sousa Chinensis which are thought to be a rare subspecies of the Chinese white dolphin.
To see one of these nearly extinct creatures for yourself is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
One of the main fascinations of Khanom is its simplicity. Of course there are spectacular beaches, but the fact is that this quiet modest village doesn't have the towering condos or mega-malls that some of the major resort areas in Thailand have. There aren't any discothèques or go-go bars. You also won't find pushy salesmen trying to make deals. You will find, however, are the warm welcoming smiles of the locals.
If you enjoy outdoor activities there are two breath-taking caves and five amazing waterfalls which go along the northern end of the Khao Luang National Park.
Khanom has yet another hard to find sporting activity. They have sea golf. Yes, that's right. Khanom is a popular spot for sea golf. Between April and July the locals discovered that the low tides leave the entire bay dry for most of the day. They decided that they would take advantage of the smooth sandy bottom, so they created a temporary golf course. For the past several years there have even been tournaments!
And on the subject of golf, Khanom features some of the areas finest golf courses, all within a short distance drive from the town.
Indeed, there are a plethora of things to do and see in this tropical paradise and are just waiting to be discovered. For more information on Khanom and the area itself visit our sister site Khanom Thailand
